Term & Technique in Photography

In my previous entry there were photos with titles 'panning' & 'bokeh'. There are many term & techniques in photography..which I dont know how long is the list...because I am also newbies.... I will share some of them down here with simple definition (my own definision) and sample photo (my own photo)... don't expect much from it...as I am also.........you know it.

1. Bokeh - Blur in out of focus area/background but sharp and clear subject.

1/10sec, f/5.3

2. Panning - Following the moving subject with your camera, sharp subject while the background is skewed..

1/8sec, f/5.3

3. Slow Shuttter - Intentionally to blur moving subject..seems like the subject is 'moving' in your photo.

1/2sec, f/36 (Slow Shutter)

1/50sec, f/25

We can also do 'Light Painting' with slow shutter..

8sec, f/4

4. Fast Shutter - To freeze moving subject...normally use in sports event.

1/250sec, f/5.6

5. Silhouette - Capturing subject/object against the light resulting subject/object being black in color.

8sec, f1/80

Hopefully these information are usefull to a beginner like me... As mentioned there are more that we can find in the internet. I would recommend Wikepedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokeh as one of the best to refer for anything that you want. Others are like http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2009/04/22/the-ultimate-photography-round-up/, http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/camera-exposure.htm.

till then...

Fahami beberapa perkara asas seperti:

1) Apeture
- size of lens opening (f-stops), large apeture (smaller f value)-more light gets in, small apeture (bigger f value)-less light gets in.

f value mempunyai kaitan dengan

DOF (depth of field)
- large DOF (bigger f value), most of the image will be in focus.
- small/shallow DOF (smaller f value), only part of the image will be in focus.

2) Shutter Speed (measured in second)
- ammount of time that shutter is open or in other word length of time that your image sensor sees the scene.
- to freeze movement (all image) faster shutter speed.
- to frezee movement (moving item blurr / 'panning' - photography term) slow shutter speed.
note: longer focal length - require faster shutter speed to reduce shake.

3) ISO (measure sensitivity of image sensor)
- low ISO, less grain/noise (finer picture).
- higher ISO (normally use in dark situation) it give faster shuter speed. example situation - indoor sport (freeze action in lower light).

Semua di atas boleh dihubung kaitkan dan ianya menjadi...

THE EXPOSURE TRIANGLE
Like a you and a window:
: Apeture - size of the window (bigger in size, you will get more light)
: Shutter Speed - ammount of time the window is open (period of time you expose to light)
: ISO - like you wearing sun glasses

Rujukan:
1. Buku panduan yg disertakan apabila membeli kamera anda.
